Gearing Up for Summer Sports As a parent
There’s something so special about being a sports mom—watching your kids compete, grow, and push themselves to new limits. I absolutely love it. The early mornings, , the snacks in the trunk—it’s all worth it to see their proud smiles after a race or the way they light up when they beat their personal best.
My kids just had their first track meet of the season and let me tell you—it was equal parts exciting, chaotic, and heartwarming. If you’re getting ready to jump into summer sports season, whether your kids are playing soccer, baseball, softball, or any warm-weather sport, there’s something about the spring and summer season that brings a whole new level of busy—and excitement.
SO GEAR UP!…
Here are my tips on how to prep like a pro and make this season fun, functional, and (mostly) stress-free:
Do a Gear Check
Before the first practice, pull out last year’s equipment and give it the once-over. Are the cleats still the right size? Does the glove fit? Can you even find the water bottles? Spring is a great time to:
Make sure uniforms are clean and still fit
Restock essentials like athletic tape, hair ties, and sunscreen
Label everything—you’ll thank yourself later when the water bottle graveyard strikes
Organize the Chaos (Kind of)…
You don’t have to be a spreadsheet queen to stay on top of sports life. A simple calendar system—whether on paper, your phone, or a shared family app—can save your sanity.
Color-code practices, games, and team events
Create a rotating carpool schedule if you can (team up with other parents!)
Keep a sports bag packed with “sideline stuff”: folding chair, snacks, bug spray, umbrella, and a blanket for surprise spring chills or hot bleachers
*remember organize according to you ! Color coding everything looks cool but if it doesn't help you organize you’ll be using more energy trying to put it on paper than knowing where things are
Master the Art of the Snack Hack
Between running kids to different fields and cheering them on, you’ll need to keep your crew fueled. Quick, healthy snacks are a must:
Pre-pack snack bags with trail mix, fruit pouches, and granola bars
Freeze water bottles overnight to double as ice packs in the cooler
Protein is important. ( if your kids eat meat try Jerky its a quick way to get in the protein they need )
MOMS: throw in an extra snack or iced coffee in the cooler for later for yourself—you’re working hard out there too girl!
Protect the Routine (and Your Sanity)
Sports season can mess with bedtime, mealtime, and homework time. Try to build a flexible routine that works with your family’s schedule.
Keep dinners simple and prep ahead when possible (crockpot meals are lifesavers!)
Set aside quiet time after games to decompress—especially for younger kids ( no screen time! )
Don’t be afraid to say no to over-scheduling—rest days matter too
Most Importantly Soak It All In
It might feel like a blur of cleats and car rides right now, but these are the moments your kids will remember. The high-fives after a tough game, the way you showed up (even in the rain), and the snack you always had in your bag—these little things matter more than you think.
Being a sports mom in the spring and summer isn’t always glamorous, but it’s full of beautiful moments. So load up the car, throw your hair in a ponytail, and enjoy the ride. You’re not just driving to practice—you’re cheering them through some of the best memories of their childhood.
